Sons of Union Veterans

Antietam Camp #3

Antietam Camp No. #3, is a part of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

The SUVCW is a patriotic, educational, and fraternal organization that is the legal heir to and representative of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). The three principles handed down to us from the GAR are Fraternity, Charity, and Loyalty.  Membership is based on male hereditary lineage to an ancestor who served honorably in the Union Army, Navy or US Revenue Cutter Service.  More information and an application can be found on the National website, which is located in our links page.

Today, the National Organization of the SUVCW, headed by an annually elected Commander-in-Chief, oversees the operation of 26 Departments,

each consisting of one or more states, a Department-at-Large, a National Membership-at-Large, and over 200 community-based Camps.

Antietam Camp No. 3 is one such Camp. We meet bi-monthly in Frederick, Maryland and have members who live in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, & West Virginia.

Antietam Camp #3 is part of the Department of the Chesapeake, which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Among its many activities, Antietam Camp participates in an annual Civil War Medal of Honor Ceremony, the Antietam Battlefield Illumination, National Park Clean Up Day, Memorial Day ceremonies, Gettysburg Remembrance Day Parade, Civil War veteran grave marking ceremonies, and the National SUVCW Encampment to name but a few.

Antietam Camp also has a very active Auxiliary as well.  Please visit their website at:
